Godox S-200, a first look
This is not an extensive review of the godox S-200 but my first experience working with it.
The S-200 is an external flash and not just a regular flash but in the form of a cylinder. You need a Godox AD200 or AD200 Pro to be able to use it.
The street price of the S-200 is about 300 Euro (inc. VAT). 300 Euro is what you pay for a Godox AD200.
The flash comes in a nice carrying case. Included are barn doors and a light stand holder (swivel) from the same type as the AD200 Pro and AD100 Pro.
The weight is about 1 kg.
One of the nice things about this S-200 is its versatility. Without using barn doors the AD-S200 creates omnidirectional light. This is very useful because the light spreads anywhere. Compare it with a flash bulb like the AD600 pro without any lightfomer attached to it.
Once you add the barn doors you can define the shape of the light and I was very happy with what I saw. You can easily create a small rectangle and by placing the doors in a 180° position the light also will have an angle of the same amount.
Because of the size you could easily put this behind a model towards the backdrop and control the angle of light.
When you put the S-200 in a parabolic lightformer using a S-Bracket (like the Godox S1) the light spreads evenly inside the parabolic. I will have to perform some tests with the standard AD200 bulb (not the fresnel) and the S-200 before making any conclusions.
My first impression is very good but it is to early to give a final verdict. I first need to do some further testing and shoots to give a a more detailled review what this thing can do.
